Badacsony: 20,7 km

The Badacsony hill might be the most well-known, most popular hill of the region. On this truncated cone of volcanic origin (with a perimeter of 11 km and a hight of 438 m) protruding into the Balaton - due to favourable natural conditions - viticulture has had long traditions. The hill is full of hiking routes, which lead you to interesting and famous spots. A study path of nealy 4 km (a roundway) helps you explore the geological, botanical and zoological treasures of the region.

Bujdosók lépcsője (Stairs of the Outlaws)

The summit of Badacsony (at 438 m) can be approached on the "Bujdosók lépcsője", which consists of 379 steps, and sections of which are separated by landings and are named after personalities of the kuruc era. The summit offers a splendid panorama to Lake Balaton, to its southern shore, and the surrounding hills.

Kisfaludy house, Szegedi Róza house

Former house of the renowned poet, Sándor Kisfaludy, a thatched house with a porch - today a restaurant - is a perfect example of farmers' rustic baroque. The house of Szegedy Róza (built in the same architectural style), in which the poet and his wife, Szegedy Róza once had lived, functions as commemorative museum of literature.

Rózsakő (Rose Stone)

This basalt rock, once split off the hill was probably named after the wife of poet Kisfaludy. The name was carved into the stone in 1886. According to popular belief if a boy and a girl take seat on the stone with their backs toward the lake, they will engage each other in the same year.

Commemorative museum of Egry József

The house of the great painter József Egry, who had painted the view of Balaton and Badacsony several times, is a commemorative museum today, showing a number of paintings and graphics of the artist.

Tapolca: 23,3 km

Grotto - Cave Lake

A valueable attraction of Tapolca is the Grotto, which was discovered during well digging in 1902 and stretches out below the city. In the limestone the cavern waters created this cave system with an approximate lenght of 4 km, from which 2,5 km can be visited. Its greatest room is nearly 20 m in length, 3-5 m in width and has a height of 8 m. The floors of the cave system are partly covered with water of 19 degree Celsius, in those sections you can travel by boat.

Szent György Hill, "Basalt organ pipes"

This remnant hill of volcanic origin is located in the Tapolca basin and is a popular place of excursion. Well-known and most peculiar formations of this hill are the "basalt organ pipes". The Balatoni Upland National Park created a round way of 4 km, it is a study path consisting of 7 stations, which help you discover the beauties and values of the area. The 414-meter summit of the hill offers a magnificent panorama of the Balaton Uplands.

Small-Balaton: appr.15-20 km

Kányavári Island, study path

Kis-Balaton was once a bay of Lake Balaton, with open water surface, but during the millennia it was filled up with debris and became a marsch region covered with reed. It is a natural reservation area acknowledged on international scale, it is part of the Balaton Uplands National Park. It is primarily significant due to its rich avifauna. Over and above the about 250 bird species observed here there are lots of rare animal and plant species, which have found a safe resort in the area. The ecology of the swamp can be further explored on the Kányavári Island (non-restrictred area near Balatonmagyaród), on 2 lookout towers and on the Búbos Vöcsök (great crested grebe) study path. However, the strictly protected areas can be only visited with preadmission and with qualified professional guides.

Buffalo Reserve in Kápolnapuszta

The Buffalo Reserve of Kápolnapuszta is located near Zalakomár. During their visit guests can get to know these large, once endangered species, which - due to their enormous power - had been often used by our ancestors for pulling yoke.

Fenékpuszta: 14,5 km

Ruins of the Roman Valcum

In the Roman era there was a crossing of 2 important provincial roads in Fenékpuszta: one of them led from the Adriatic Aquileia to Aquincum (Óbuda) the other one from Sopianae (Pécs) to Savaria (Szombathely). In the 4. century a fortress was built here, today only remains of the gate, the 3-aisle basilica and the state store-house can be seen.

Balatonszentgyörgy: 19,8 km

Csillagvár

This building has got an interesting, star-like ground plan and once it was the hunting mansion of the Festetics counts. In the building there is a medieval panoptikum (wax works), which truely displays life of our forebears: you can see brave warriors having a feast, a village smith pulling out a tooth or women working busily in the kitchen. In the uique cellar system a hussar museum can be found, in which 80-cm tall figures show you what ornamental costumes light horsemen were wearing in the past.
